Indian Spiced Shrimp with Side Salad (Kachumbar)

Make this zingy spiced shrimp dish as a standalone or as a side, and serve with a refreshing side salad called kachumbar to cool down the heat.

Ingredients

Shrimp:

½ pound of shrimp (about 10 pieces-12 pieces)

¼ cup of plain yogurt

1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder (can substitute with paprika)

¼ teaspoon of turmeric

½ teaspoon cumin powder

½ teaspoon red chili powder

½ teaspoon garam masala

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 tablespoon olive oil

salt to taste

Salad:

cucumber

carrots

onion

dill

pine nuts

lemon juice

salt to taste

chaat masala (do everything to taste here)


Instructions

  1. To make the salad, chop cucumber, carrots, onion, and dill finely. Add to a bowl and season with lemon juice, salt, and chaat masala to taste. Finish with pine nuts and set aside.

  2. In a small bowl, mix the spices with yogurt and oil.

  3. Add shrimp to the mixture and set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.

  4. Grill shrimp on medium high heat for 4-5 minutes (try to not overcook).

  5. Serve with the salad on the side.
